Down Friday

When Daddy has a day off from work, this is how we spend our time - in our jammies until noon(ish), getting excited about the simple things.

Ten Months Old

At 10-months-old, we spend our mornings playing in jammies ...

... crawling around the play area ...

... peeking over the stair gate ...

... smiling in the sunlight ...

... finding Momma when she 'hides' ...

... and practicing to someday stand without help.

Oh, what a stripped morning!

Today was our first venture out to the park. We've walked by it many times as we've strolled around the neighborhood, but the weather today was too nice to pass up some sliding and swinging. Momma and Daddy may have been a little more excited than RJ was at first, but he warmed up to the experience as we went along. So many new things to look at! What fun!

Walker, Texas Baby

Our Texas-born baby boy is just about ready to take some steps on his own.

Spoon Fed

Would you believe that this baby can now feed himself?
I wouldn't either, without video-graphic evidence.

"The Walrus"

As of yet, Little Man is not quite crawling - at least not in the traditional sense. He is, however, fairly mobile. His mode of transportation most closely resembles the motions of a beached marine animal, earning it the right to be referred to as "The Walrus":

GG & Pop

On their way to California to meet their third great-grandbaby, GG & Pop stopped in to have lunch with us. Even though we only saw them for a couple of hours, we enjoyed their visit - and they seemed to enjoy Little Man even more!

They were impressed with Little Man's new skills - particularly his 'walking'. He took off for his new toy, and kept on going right under the table!

Laundry

What a helpful boy I have! This afternoon, as I was folding laundry, he was kind enough to pick up the articles nearest him and deposit them back in the basket from which I had removed them just moments before.

See that last one? Those are matched, folded socks he's tossing back!

When all the laundry had been removed from the basket, he was insistent that he be allowed to play in it. Who was I to argue with a child who asked to be corralled? Of course, he did require a sock to chew on, but luckily I had one without a mate to donate to his fun.

I believe that's a literal translation of "put a sock in it".

When he wasn't chewing socks, he noticed that there was a pile of clothes yet to be folded in his vicinity. Eager to help Momma, he reached for the edge, only to find it just beyond arm's length - but don't think for a second that anything so simple could stop him!

It appears we now have a child who possesses the ability to pull up in order to stand ... oh, dear!

Magic Box

A new toy has struck Little Man's fancy in recent days - the diaper box. Oh, how magical is the diaper box. A few pieces of cardboard that were almost thrown out with the recyclables was transformed into nothing short of a sports car when Daddy & Little Man got their hands on it. Little Man was even gracious enough to allow Spoopy to come along for the ride - we've been working on his sharing skills, and apparently the lessons have made some impact. He was a ball of giggles as Daddy sped him around the living room, and keeps going right for the box anytime he's on the floor. I think I'll be buying diapers in a box from now on, if only to replace what I know will eventually be distroyed ...

Fling & Flop

In our house, there is no crawling. At least, not yet. Instead, we have a little boy who flings himself forward and flops on the ground, eventually making his way to his target. His knees cooperate with mobility; his arms, however, haven't quite figured it out yet. This adorable attempt at moving himself around has us pretty excited (and nervous!) about the next stage!

"Hello, Grandpa"

Currently in Madison visiting his parents, my Dad asked for a quick video of Little Man to show them. We tried to get him to say hello, but his incessant babbling was all he would give us.
About 4 seconds after we stopped recording we clearly heard "hello grandpa" - next time we'll leave the camera running a little longer!

Bath Time Fun

For his first Christmas, Husby and I presented Little Man with new bath toys. Getting a bath is one of his favorite parts of the evening - and it's now even more fun with the addition of floating, scooping, and squirting fish & friends. We couldn't resist recording him and his fun:
